Find and Add Canvas External Tools for your Course

Review this knowledge base article for directions on how to add a Canvas external tool to your course.

To view recordings and slides of external tools trainings, visit this channel.

Consider the Canvas App Explorer (CAE) tool, which can be added to Canvas courses. CAE helps course admins easily understand and select Canvas external tools to use in their courses.

Canvas App Explorer allows course owners to:

  • Search for an integrated app by name or category
  • Understand the use and functionality of an app
  • Add or remove an app with a single click
  • Find help documents and other support resources for an app

Note: Some Canvas external tools may require licenses and/or have an associated fee; please contact the tool provider for additional details. All tools/applications on this list are either covered under the university’s data privacy agreement, unless otherwise stated. Sometimes units offer unit-specific Canvas apps, please check in with your unit.
